Our Lamp

At this stage we have decided to keep the stucture of the lamp simplistic and modern looking as possible.

Having too many parts makes the lamp look more messy instead of a clean look.

Though we like the panel and iris structures, timewise we would like to focus on one aspect and make it look and work exactly how we want.

Iris Mechanism

Assembling the Iris Mechanism

- Jan found a step by step tutorial of how to make a lazercut file of the iris technique

- This idea is developed from the panel shutting concept and working towards opening and closing areas that can shut off light and exposed

- This idea worked really well, it worked better than the other panel shutting concept. For example: -Had a range of continued movement -It wouldnt lock in a certain point -The lazercut ply smoothly wwent with other parts of ply

Panel Mechanism

Image -New panel design diagram of how it would potentailly work.

Image -Illustrator file for this panel shutting idea, the first file to see if the movement will be created.

First Models

Our first model works really well. It is able to move into different positions by having notches that can keep the lamps in a certain place without moving by itself. It is quite chunky and the lamp head is heavy looking in comparison to other lights already designed.

Changes:

-When you move one side (leg), the other side should move in unison

-Base is quite chunky looking and takes away from the height of lamp. Make base at bottom.

-Lock the short arm to make more secure.

-Top raling come lower, make base smaller.
